Overview

The Extreme Light Infrastructure – Attosecond Light Pulse Source (ELI-ALPS) is organising its fourth User Workshop on November 10-11, 2016, in Szeged, Hungary.

The ELI-ALPS being implemented in Szeged, Hungary is one of the three pillars of the Extreme Light Infrastructure listed in the ESFRI roadmap that will be the first international facility with the mission to make a wide range of ultrafast light sources accessible to international user groups. At the core of the infrastructure will be laser driven high repetition rate secondary sources emitting coherent radiation at frequencies spanning from THz to extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) and X-ray spectral region confined in ultrashort pulses reaching the attosecond time regime. The infrastructure will further operate laser driven particle acceleration sources, amongst other driving novel short wavelength, short pulse duration radiation beamlines as well. The perspective of use of several combinations of the ELI-ALPS primary and secondary sources provides a unique research environment to users conducting scientific research and industrial applications. In 2018, initial operations will commence onsite.

Further information about the Research Infrastructure can be found at www.eli-alps.hu.

ELI-ALPS, as an international user facility, is also forming an active international user community, incorporating users from a broad spectrum of disciplines, research areas and technological/industrial application. The announced workshop is in the framework of these actions. The fourth user workshop focuses on research that could be conducted at ELI-ALPS in the scientific areas of laser particle acceleration and related application, THz radiation applications and radiobiology applications of laser driven secondary sources. Its mission is to brainstorm research and technology that could be optimally and/or uniquely hosted by ELI-ALPS. A round table discussion on “User facility interface parameters” will be organized in the framework of the workshop aiming at the collection of user requirements with respect to parameters and adequate units that the users as well as peripheral instrumentation would need to be provided with.

Workshop programme:

  • Presentation of the infrastructure, its primary and secondary sources including provided specialized instrumentation by the personnel of ELI-ALPS.
  • Talks – only by invitation - on the above mentioned topics.
  • Poster presentations by participants on research to be conducted at ELI-ALPS.
